Gorski Kotar
The mountainous region of Gorski Kotar (where the Kangaroo Lodge is located), appropriately nicknamed the "green lungs of Croatia" or "Croatian Switzerland", has an average altitude of 800m above sea level. The highest peak is Bjelolasica at 1534m followed by Risnjak at 1528m. Close to the sea and yet removed from the coastal hustle and bustle, the region offers a touch of tranquility throughout the year. Even during the summer months the air is pleasantly fresh, and in the winter the area transforms into a magical wonderland seemingly imagined from old postcards. Holiday adventurers and nature lovers will find a variety of activities any time of the year, from hiking, skiing, fishing, and rafting to mushroom- and berry-picking, hunting, and more. Afterward, treat yourself to the rich local gastronomic specialties prepared from forest fruits and venisons and find your strength restored. You should not miss out on the most famous Kamacnik restaurant, preparing regional specialties. It located only 15 minutes away from the Kangaroo Lodge. Gorski Kotar Must-Visit Locales:
